Alejandro GÓMEZ VILLAGÓMEZ

Composer (Mexico)

    He began composition studies in 1979 with professor Ramiro Luis Guerra at Monterrey. Continued in France (1989-1998) with professors Emmanuel NUNES, Ivo MALEC, Philippe LEROUX, Brian FERNEYHOUGH, Helmut LACHENMANN, Jonathan HARVEY, Gerard GRISEY, Philippe MANOURY, Tristan MURAIL, Roger REYNOLDS, Marc-André Dalbavie, José Manuel López López, Horacio Vaggione, the seminars of Pierre BOULEZ and the courses of composition and technology Académie d’été at the IRCAM (1993, 1998, 2001 and 2007).    In 2004, he founded the “International Festival of Contemporary Music ‘New Music Monterrey’”.    Among the composition fellowships that he has won are: Young Creators (FONCA 1990); Composer’s Center of Nuevo Leon (CONARTE 2000 y 2001), Musical production for recognized and young composers (CONARTE 2003), Creators (FONECA 2003 and 2005) and National System for Art Creators (FONCA 2005).    In 2007, he was selected by COMUS (Mexico’s Music Council) to represent this country at the International Contemporary Music Tribune at the UNESCO-Paris. His works have been selected and premiered by the Ensemble Intercontemporain of Paris at the “Universal Forum of Cultures 2007” in Monterrey; by TAMBUCO and the Ensamble Redes at the “Cervantino International Festival” for its XXXVI and XLII editions (2008, 2014 respectively); by the “Manuel Enriquez International Forum of Contemporary Music” and the “International Festival of Contemporary Music ‘New Music Monterrey’”, among others.    His music has been performed in several countries by recognized musicians such as: Sophie Deshayes, Wilfrido Terrazas, Susan Narucki, Ananda Sukarlan, Mauricio Nader, Wendy Holdaway, Natalia Pérez, José Luis Castillo, Ensemble Sillages, Eolia Flute Quartet, Ensemble L’Instant Donné, Contemporánea Guitar Quartet, CEPROMUSIC, the National Symphonic Orchestra, among others.    He has received the following recognitions: “Premio a las Artes Auditivas” UANL (University of Nuevo Leon’s Auditory Arts Prize); recognition for work contribution to “University of Nuevo Leon’s 75th. anniv. Editorial Collection”, recognitions for his career as composer and professor by the World Cultural Council and the University of Northeastern Mexico.    He coordinated Nuevo Leon’s Composers Center (2008-2010) and tutored in the program Young Creators (FONCA 2010). Since 2000, he works as professor at the Music Department of the University of Nuevo Leon. Alejandro Gomez has given masterclasses, workshops and seminars in Mexico and abroad. At present time, he studies a PhD at the Université Paris 8 Vincennes-Saint Denis, in France.
